Also known as a larch, the tamarack is native to the bogs of northern Minnesota. This tree makes a unique yard tree and becomes the talk of the neighborhood when it turns an eye popping yellow in the fall. This is a deciduous evergreen meaning it sheds its needles in the fall. The tamarack is truly an interesting and unusual specimen. Prefers moist well-drained soil.
- Due to its mature size, this tree should not be planted under power lines.
- If planted in a slightly dry site, be sure to mulch with wood chips and water regularly during periods of drought.
